The Pain Of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain throughout the entire body with no obvious cause or explanation.  In addition to experiencing extreme widespread pain, patients with fibromyalgia also suffer from morning stiffness, unexplained referred regional pain, chronic fatigue, poor sleep patterns, chronic headaches and intolerance to cold weather.  According to the National Arthritis Foundation, “Fibromyalgia diagnosis remains difficult because there are no current diagnostic laboratory tests to truly diagnose the condition.”  Therefore, the mass majority of patients are left frustrated, ignored, or told they may have to live with the pain. This problem, in fact, can create more stress and additional worry in patients.  Added long-term stress may actually result in increased worry regarding resolution, thus cyclically continuing to re-create the pain cycle.

At this point in time there’s no known medical cure for fibromyalgia, treatment is solely aimed at controlling the symptoms which have been generalized as, “an oversensitive nervous system that generates false alarms spontaneously or from ordinary non-painful stimulus which physiologists now recognize as nerves and muscles that can generate abnormal impulses and the technical term for this is super-sensitivity” says Dr. Chan Gunn MD.  Fibromyalgia is sadly very misunderstood by the medical community, Fibroworld states, “the cause of fibromyalgia must involve one or more abnormalities by which the central nervous system interprets pain signals.”

The Chiropractic Approach!

How do chiropractors treat and manage Fibromyalgia?  Chiropractors recognize the fact that, “Fibromyalgia arises as referred pain from neck and back problems, and underline spinal problems, needs correction to obtain improvement,” according to Health News.

Chiropractic has been proven to be extremely safe, drug-free and massively effective in treating neurological and spinal nerve based conditions, such as fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome.

Doctors of OKC Chiropractic specialize in detecting and correcting spinal nerve interference by gently adjusting the spine.  Removing pressure from spinal nerves will, over time, correct nerve interference or restore proper nerve function, thus reducing hypersensitivity to pain stimuli.

If you have friends and family members that have suffered from or are currently suffering from conditions like fibromyalgia, do them a huge favor and refer them to your local experienced chiropractor!

Auto Accidents – Long Term Concern

Whiplash injuries occur when automobiles collide and the human frame is suddenly forced beyond the normal limits of motion.  The mass majority of the time in a rear end or side impact collision, the velocity of the impact forces the neck muscles to violently move forward and backward causing extreme movement of the head and spine.

Whiplash is the most common problem we face in nonfatal car accidents and injuries.  Car wreck whiplash is a major problem due to the fact that it causes severe damage to muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments of the spine and surrounding areas, thus changing the natural healthy curvature of the spine.

Most whiplash symptoms can be immediate, however some symptoms are long-term and the delayed symptoms can cause many problems later in life.  Car accident doctors’ cannot resolve injuries with medicine alone, spinal rehab is essential for long term correction.

For example, car accidents can cause misaligned vertebral bodies that can lead to nerve impingement.  Pressure on the here root, simply put, can cause a whole host of things, mainly pain.  If nerves do become compressed, stretched, or irritated, this biomechanics issue may interfere with nerve transmission and the body can experience pain.

Proper evaluation by a chiropractor includes a thorough physical examination, x-rays of your spine, and if necessary proper treatment. Gently and highly effective chiropractic care will allow your body to be rehabilitated to what we consider a pre-clinical or pre-accident status.
